Look Back at Your Observations

1. Did anything surprise you?
What did you think was happening while you were watching?
Observation vs. Inference

An observation is information gathered directly through your senses or through measurement.

An inference is an interpretation or explanation based on observations and what you already know.
2. Look at each statement you wrote.
Which statements were observations?
3. Which statements were actually inferences?
Were there any statements that included something you assumed, interpreted, or thought was happening?
4. What new evidence changed your thinking?
Identify something you observed later in the video that caused you to reconsider an earlier idea.
5. Revise your thinking.
Based on all of the evidence, how would you explain what you observed now?
Think Like a Scientist

How can what we already know influence the way we interpret our observations?
